Five weeks post surgery...

Kari Lynn
Holualoa, HI  96725

Reid Anders Rosendahl, MD
Austin, TX

Aloha Dr. Rosendahl:

Well I am almost five weeks post-surgery and I wanted you to know how very grateful I am of the care and expertise you provided me.  Not only di you provide that excellent care and expertise but you gave me the most wonderful gift… "peace of mind".

I have been around physicians for greater than 25 years --- I have managed physician practices---and I want to tell you that you are like no other.  You are in a league of your own.  Your dedication and compassion---your "understanding" of my concerns and my fears---your gift and ability to make me feel completely and utterly relaxed is so very rare to find.  Most physicians are so busy with the nonclinical aspecs of practice that they don't have the time to truly deliver the full and complete needs of a patient.  You have gone well beyond the call----to a stratosphere never before seen.

I don't want to forget about your side-step, Andi, whose wonderful character and dedication to her job was well felt and appreciated and received.  The two of you are an unstoppable team of happy makers.  You've returned me to my normal life --- to the happy person I was before --- and I THANK YOU, from the bottom of my heart.

Aloha,  Kari Lynn

A Doctor Worth Sticking Your Neck Out For

OK, be honest:  When is the last time you looked forward to someone slitting your throat?

Better yet, when was the last time it happened and you enjoyed the experience?

Welcome to the delightful world of Dr. R Anders Rosendahl, gentleman rancher, delightful human being and thyroid surgeon extraordinaire.  My first contact with this amazing man was on the phone.  I had called his office to see if I could make an appointment to talk with him and he called me back in person that same afternoon. Now, I don't know where you live in this wonderful world of ours, but in my hometown of Tampa, Florida, (a) physicians don't call you back in person and (b) they certainly don't do it on the same day you call their office!  I knew right then that this was a very special kind of doctor.

I spoke with Dr. Rosendahl about my condition for a long time…much longer than I felt I had a right to; after all, he didn’t know me, I hadn't made an appointment, and I hadn't paid him a dime.  I felt guilty about taking the good doctor's time, but he assured me it was fine and he answered all of my questions in a friendly and informative manner.

I felt very comfortable with this man as a person and a surgeon.  Of course, knowing that he had already taken out more thyroid gland (3,000+ and counting) than most surgeons in the entire state of Florida didn't hurt my confidence in his ability to pluck that little butterfly from my throat without complications (like losing my voice; hey, I lecture for a living!).

Three weeks after my first call to Dr. Rosendahl I was wheeled into the surgery center at the Hospital at Westlake Medical Center for my procedure.  Three weeks!  It normally takes me that long to arrange to get my oil changed in my car.  On the afternoon before the surgery Dr. Rosendahl met with me and my wife and spent over an hour going over all my questions and concerns relating to the surgery and, also, taking the time to explain what I could expect before, during and after the operation.

The operation itself was achieved without incident.  It was a total thyroidectomy and I was totally satisfied with the outcome.  That evening I spent a comfortable night in the hospital (well, there was a small problem with the catheter…hey, nothing goes perfectly) and was discharged the next day.  Dr. Rosendahl came by to see how I was doing---he even spoon-fed me ice chips---and gave me detailed instructions about the post-operative care before releasing me to return to my hotel.  Altogether, we stayed in Austin from Monday until Friday, and during the entire time Dr. Rosendahl made himself available to answer any of my questions and even had me stop by his office on Friday to make a final check on my progress and say goodbye.

It's now been over a month since the operation and I feel no ill effects from the procedure; in fact, I have a sense of being blessed by the outcome of the surgery and a new respect for the medical profession.

Some people might ask; was it really worth it to travel from Florida to Texas to get the operation when there were doctors back in Tampa that could have done the job and, in addition, saved me the trouble of filing the insurance forms to get reimbursed for the costs of the surgery.  My answer is an emphatic "YES!"  I can think of no better investment of my time and money then to put my life in the hands of the person most capable of preserving it!

Make no mistake:  Dr. Rosendahl is  the man! In the cut-throat world of medicine he is a cut above the rest…the sharpest scalpel in the West!

With best wishes,
Marvin Karlins,

Pleased with my thyroid surgery

September 12, 2006

 Dear Dr. Rosendahl,

It has been exactly three weeks since my surgery.  I do not know just what to say, other than, thank God I found you.  The day I came there for my first visit and our meeting to discuss my problem, I knew that I was finally at the right doctor, I felt a real connection with you, I think it is your expertise, kindness, knowledge, caring, sense of humor, honesty, and the way you explained everything in detail to me.  I know I was very stressed and expected a miracle ! What more can I say other than I am so pleased you were there to do my surgery.  I have to say one more thing, I liked the way you stitched my incision, the scar looks better than anything I have ever seen before.  I am happy and feel great!

Andi, one line for you too, you are so pleasant, and know how to handle that office, thanks for being so caring.

 Much appreciation,

  Karen S.

My only wish is that more doctors would follow your lead.

Dear Dr. Rosendahl,

I've never been one who can tolerate physician's visits very well.  As a matter of fact, normally I just "dread" going to the doctor's office, but when I came to see you, it was definitely a "DIFFERENT" experience.  From the moment I walked into your office I felt welcomed.  You and your very competent staff, were not rushed, and during my consult explained crucial information about my case, and options for treatment.  In this day and age when so many doctor's "bark" out orders and expect their patients to blindly follow them, you actually took the time to educate me about thyroid disease so that I could make the decision that was "correct" for me.  My only wish is that more doctors would follow your lead and treat their patients as an equal partner in their treatment.  Thank you so very, very much for sharing your knowledge and for the kindness you extended to me during my visit.  You are truly a special physician , and I would recommend that anyone considering thyroid surgery come to you for either a first or second opinion before choosing a thyroid surgeon.

With warm regards,

Lee

You have redefined the world of medicine.

I cannot begin to tell you how you have changed my life. I never imagined that I was so sick and totally forgot what was like to "live" and not just "survive". It takes more than training, education, and skill to treat a patient. Thank you for the empathy, compassion, love, understanding, encouragement and humor. You have redefined the world of medicine for my family, friends, and I.

With love,

Lori

From the bottom of my heart and soul I thank you.

Dear Dr. Rosendahl,

I want to take this moment to tell you how much my mom's quality of life has improved since her surgery.   It wasn't long after the healing and synthroid kicked in that she started breathing and feeling better than she has in years her level of energy has increased and an overall sense of well-being she says is coming from the inside out.  Andi and yourself spoiled us.  Mom had a recent mammogram and there is an issue with her right breast.  Everything looks pretty good at this point.  They are running test and we are meeting with doctors.  The level of knowledge, care and compassion we encountered with your practice remains unparalleled to any other offices we have been going to concerning her breast.  The appreciation I feel for finding you for my mother can't be articulated.  From the bottom of my heart and soul I thank you!!!  When we are at a doctor's office it is very funny.  They ask us if she has had any surgeries and when we mention the thyroid they always ask why did you take her to Austin?  Mom and I smile at each other and simply reply because he is the best!

Once again Thank you Dr. Rosendahl,

                             Sincerely Jim

You've changed my life!

Dr. Rosendahl,

I don't really even know how to begin to thank you for what you've done for me. You've changed my life! I can't wait to start feeling good again. It's only been a few days since my surgery and I can already tell a big difference.

Everyone told me that you are the best, and now I know why. After my initial consultation with you I immediately knew that I'd come to the right place. I couldn't believe that you spent over an hour and a half educating me on my condition and medical options. (That's unheard of in today's times for any doctor to spend anywhere near that amount of time with a patient.) I left that meeting with a thorough understanding of the surgery that I was facing and the associated risks. The extra time that you spent answering my many questions up front enabled me to take comfort in my decision to proceed with the surgery. That's when I felt the first weight lifted!

The next weight was lifted when you took that "32 oz. Porterhouse" out of my neck!!! I know that it was a complicated surgery and took longer than expected. You did a phenomenal job! I'm amazed at the picture of my thyroid. It was huge. I can't believe that you were able to take it out in one piece. I can literally breathe easier thanks to you! I'll never be able to thank you enough for what you've done for me. Keep up the great work Dr. Rosendahl. You are making such a difference in so many lives.

Thanks again,

Paul

I finally feel normal again.

Dear Dr. Rosendahl,

Thank you so much for the excellent job you did! I finally feel normal again. The nurse at Seton said you were one of the top 2 surgeons in the U.S. Well, sir, in my book, you are #1!!! Thanks for checking up on me also. It meant so much to have a doctor who truly cared. They are few and far between.

God Bless You!
